MCDONALD's x CROCS
Our brief was to design shoes from the ground up that appealed to both a Gen Z, and an international audience.
For a global launch like this, there’s nuances like the fact that Ronald McDonald with his iconic red shoes, doesn’t even exist in other parts of the world.
But social listening uncovered something unexpected. Fans all around the world were obsessed with the McDonaldland characters: Grimace Birdie and the Hamburglar. (Characters the brand had actually been trying to get rid of)
This seemed risky, to build shoes around nostalgic characters that Gen Z did not grow up with.
But we chose to listen to the fans.
After a couple of years of collaboration, we launched the McDonaldland clogs via “Croc Thrus” across the globe, with multiple countries selling out at time of launch.
